How freakin adorable is this cute little couple with their dog Dennis?!? Most of my couples sessions consist of majority of the photos being of the couple and a good handful including their cute pets. Not this session! Dennis totally stole the show and I’m not mad about it. This Reynolda Village dog photos session consisted of almost all photos with the couple and their dog and honestly, I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
When it comes to sessions with dogs, I have 3 big tips:
Tip #1- Pick a dog friendly location
If you want most of your photos to be with you dog, then make sure the session location allows them. This way we have free range and can go anywhere with them without worry.
Tip #2- Bring a toy or treats and a drool rag if needed
As friendly as I am with dogs, some dogs just need a little bit of time to warm up. Handing your photographer a favorite toy or treat can do wonders with photos. It helps keep the dog’s attention on the camera so we at least get a few cute photos of them looking straight on. And if you dog gets dirty easily or is drooly, bring a rag so we can wipe their face or wipe drool off clothes. I know with my dog he is constantly wiping his drool on us so I’m always grateful to have a rag to clean up in between photos.
Tip #3- Be patient
Dogs have very short attention spans so be patient with them. Don’t get frustrated if they start misbehaving either. More often than not, they are in a completely new place with new smells and it can take them a second to acclimate. That’s totally fine! We’ll get all the good photos when they’re ready ;)
