2019 Behind the Scenes

2019 definitely involved a lot of changes for my business behind the scenes! For one, it was my first full year living in North Carolina. In 2018, I moved to North Carolina in the middle of the year, so my busy season involved a lot of traveling back up north for weddings and sessions. This year I got to shoot a lot of weddings and sessions in the south, as well as traveled up north 1-2 times per month for work. Honestly, at times if felt like a lot. But hey! When you move your business with 3 months notice (thank you medical residency) and my clients book me 12-18 months out, I have to expect a little traveling :)

I learned new things-

This is my second time moving my business to a different state (first time was from UT to PA for medical school), and I learn new things every time. Lots of meeting new vendors, getting to know different brides and grooms, and learning all about my new region. You’d be surprised how different northern couples are from southern couples!

I invested in myself-

Every year I invest in opportunities for education. Some years it’s to grow in my craft, others it’s been learning the in’s and out’s of online marketing. This year I decided to focus on business. I’ve never had any formal business education (my degree is in Speech Pathology and Communicative Disorders), so this year I attended a business conference in March, took a finance and business class over the fall. If you own a business, it’s important to continue to invest in yourself every year.

So every year I do a post of all the behind the scenes from my weddings that year. Let me preface by saying, although my job is pretty awesome, the behind the scenes on a wedding day is sometimes not as glamorous. My hair is usually a mess, and I look like a pack mule. Good thing I don’t need to look good in order to create good photos ;) Enjoy!
