What an interesting time in history we are living in. Just a month ago I was at a party watching the finale of the Bachelor and eating goodies while cuddled up under blankets with my girlfriends. In between commercials breaks we briefly talked about the coronavirus virus (COVID) and how we thought it might end up affecting our spouses at work. Most of our spouses are medical residents at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. At that point, there wasn’t a shelter in place or panic for food at the grocery stores. We weren’t subject to social distancing yet. It’s crazy to think how just a month ago things were completely different then they are today. I was shooting weddings on the regular, then just a month later I was offering Winston Salem Porch Photos!
As businesses started shutting down and my spring weddings were being rescheduled or postponed, I was spending more and more of my days at home with nothing productive to do. I heard about photographers in other areas around the country offering “front porch” photos to families that were at home. I loved the idea and offered it to families here Winston Salem. Free, 5 minute, Winston Salem Porch Photos to any families that wanted them. Unfortunately I could only do the sessions for 2 days before the shelter in place took effect in Winston Salem. But during those 2 days I photographed 38 families.
What I loved most about the Winston Salem Porch Photos was how many families I got to know in just 5 minutes time over the course of 2 days. Kids and pets were also involved and families dressed up, dressed down, or even dressed in costume! It was so fun to see everyone’s happy personalities come out during photos. I’m glad I was able to put some happiness in the lives of those who would otherwise be feeling distraught and helpless during this “stay at home” order. Enjoy a few of my favorite “Front Porch” photos!
