Aside from weddings, I think newborn sessions are my next favorite type of photography. I’ve never really liked the super posed, studio, baby in a stock pot with veggies around them, type of photos. I love newborn photos that tell a story, and most newborn babies spend a lot of time at home, which is why I like to photograph newborns at home in their natural element. These newborn photos in Charlotte were no different!

I met this couple during their stay-at-home maternity session in Charlotte NC just a month before baby boy was born. The nursery was just an empty room awaiting their upcoming arrival. So it was super fun to come back and see this stunning nursery! I love all the neutrals as well as the personal elements scattered around. My favorite was the banner hung above the crib.
I always start newborn sessions with details that are specific to the baby such as their room, toys, books, or clothing. The I move on to photos of the baby, making sure I capture every detail from hair, to feet, hands, eyelashes, everything! They are only going to be this small once so these photos are so important! Then I finish up the session with the parents and the baby together (which is my favorite part)! I love the pure joy you can see on the parents faces as they hold their brand new baby. Many parents tell me it’s so surreal, because you’ve been anticipating their arrival for so long, that you can barely believe they are actually here!! I love it!
