I first met the Coleman family when Andrea was pregnant over the summer. They invited me into their home (that they had recently moved into) to photograph their maternity session. It was so fun taking photos all over their house! Andrea has an amazing sense of style. I loved the mid century modern vibe. It wasn’t too long after that I was invited back to photograph newborn photos after the birth of their son, Josiah. And here I was again photographing their Freedom Park family photos.
Since we had done their last two photo session around their home, we decided to take this session outdoors to one of my favorite parks in downtown Charlotte, Freedom Park! This park is HUGE and it actually happened to be super super busy the day we went for their photo session. Thankfully I’m really good at dodging patrons at the right moments so these photos don’t feel like they were taken in a crowded park, even though they were.
We started the session at the iconic Freedom Park bridge that’s in the very center. On a fall afternoon, the lighting here is just perfect. Then we just walked around a bit to follow the light and chat in between photos. Josiah did so well for his first family session! I especially love the photos with him and each of his parents individually. I love seeing out parents interact with their children. It’s always so sweet and tender. Towards the end of the session we even got a few of Josiah sitting up by himself! Don’t worry, his parents were close by ready to reach in the frame and catch him every time he started to tip over. I’m also obsessed with his hair!! I love how curly it is! So cute.
