Reynolda Gardens is hands down one of my favorite places to photograph at in Winston Salem! It’s super pretty and there is tons of variety. I could spend a full two hour session in there easy, and that’s exactly what I did for Nicole and Thomas’s Reynolda Gardens engagement session last summer.
We started at the top of the gardens by the iconic greenhouse for some fun photos among the stone pathway and brick steps. I particularly loved their choice in outfits. One of the hardest things about planning an engagement session is deciding what to wear. Luckily I send all my couple a planning guide that gives all my tips and tricks to picking the perfect outfits. I also have a blogpost talking about how to “coordinate” clothing for an engagement session. Nicole’s first outfit was a pink day dress covered in thick lace. Thomas’s outfit coordinated perfectly with his blue checkered button-up and navy slacks. Dressy yet still casual enough :)
Once we had explored and taken photos around the whole front of the garden, Nicole and Thomas changed outfits. Nicole had on a blue dress with a big floral pattern and flowy sleeves. Thomas had a subtle patterned white button up with gray dress pants. A little bit dressier than the previous outfit, but still comfortable enough to move around in. For the second half of the session, we made our way to the back of the garden where the flower beds a little more tall and lush! The sun was setting around this time, which we planned on purpose. You can check out my post about best times for outdoor photos here!
The second half of engagement sessions are actually my favorite because everyone is now more comfortable in front of the camera and more comfortable with how I direct during a photo session. I love how much laughing Nicole and Thomas did! It was awesome. We ended the session just as the sun dipped behind the greenhouse.
