Documentary vs. Styled Photography
Documentary photography is booming right now – especially in the wedding industry. In fact, just the other day I was having a conversation with a friend about the differences between that and styled or posed photography. Today, I’m sharing thoughts on what documentary wedding photography is, what the difference is between documentary and styled photos are, and I’m even sharing examples of both. This is a great place to start to decide what style of photography is best for your wedding day!
As a wedding photographer of over 10 years, my style is a mix of both documentary and styled photography. In my opinion, you have to be skilled with photographing a lot of situations in a lot of light to be able to pull off good documentary style photography. But, I believe in a healthy mix of both when I capture a wedding. Whether you’re a photographer still learning your style or a couple planning their wedding day, knowing the difference between the two styles is important.
